Cofimo Middle East LLC, winner of the Wealth and Finance International 2017 Family Office Awards, is owned and managed by Erwin de Ruiter (1959, Netherlands) who was educated and trained as an accountant, starting his career in the eighties in the international department of a Dutch accounting-and tax firm.

After being a director of the Amsterdam office of a London based group of international tax lawyers and Corporate Service Providers (CSP’s) by the end of the eighties, he started his own CSP aged 31.

By mergers and take overs, the company developed into a small international CSP with offices in Amsterdam, London, Brussels, Curacao, Geneva, Madrid, Budapest, Nevis, The British Virgin Islands, Jersey and Monaco. In 2003, he moved with his wife and two children to Monte Carlo and in 2007 to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Most of his businesses were sold between 2005 and 2016 and at present his private practice Cofimo Middle East LLC remains. Erwin is a professional member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (UK) and a Fellow of the International Compliance Association (UK).

Erwin de Ruiter has served a large private client base of high net worth clients worldwide for over 30 years, plus he is well appreciated for his knowledge and sensitivities of the financial services industry and the offshore industry in particular. His primary areas of expertise are international tax-and estate planning and asset protection - and as a registered trust-and estate practitioner - he has been a trusted advisor of high profile clients and their families for many years.

Erwin de Ruiter’s strength is to translate and manage often complicated matters for his clients, to enable them to concentrate on their core activities. Furthermore, Erwin acts as a private investor in real estate projects, medium sized businesses, collects paintings, antiques, jewellery and objects de vertu and is active as a songwriter.
